An article can be defined as a brief summary of a particular product or service to be rendered. It tells the reader in words what a particular product or service contains that can make his life better. Articles describe events happening around the world, hobbies and games etc. The type of articles we are more interested in here is the type defined in the first sentence-sales/marketing articles. Your sales letters should be able to draw the reader from his own world into yours. For you to be able to write good sales letters, you have to be passionate about your product and be sure that your product can really help the potential customer reading such articles. An article comprises three main parts; the heading, the body and the conclusion. A final fourth part which is the resource box is only used for articles related to affiliate/product marketing.
THE HEADING: the heading of your article should be long enough, captivating and precise to the point all at the same time. Having said this, avoid the use of hype in your article especially the heading. If you hype the heading of your article, it detracts from the value of your article body and hence your customer looses confidence in you even before he has read your article to the end. For example, if you want to write an article promoting a particular brand of fruit juice, your article heading could read thus; “vitamin C, a basic component of fruit juice. This heading satisfactorily serves the three basic factors of your article heading mentioned above. Your article heading should be short and to the point.
The heading becomes boring if it is too long and many people will disregard the rest of the article as boring. It should be captivating enough to push the reader to read the rest of the article. But like I said before, avoid the use of hype. Being precise in your article heading usually gives the reader a glimpse of what he or she will like to see in your article. If your article heading is ambiguous, it usually diverts the attention of the reader away from such an article. For example, using the fruit juice instance, giving above, if your article heading reads thus; “get the best fruit juice in town now!” there are a varying number of things wrong with that article heading, such as:
– Who says your fruit juice is the best? – hype.
– There are many fruit juice companies in the world, which one are you talking about? – ambiguous and misleading.
– I live in Arizona, which town are you talking about? – Ambiguous and misleading.
THE BODY: the body of your sales article should be informative, well balanced and in most cases incomplete. It should leave the reader wanting more; information is the key to your success as an article writer, so provide the information on your product that is helpful to the reader/customer. Show the potential customer what he or she is missing by not having your product in their life. Be informative and brief at the same time and avoid using hype. By well balanced I want to liken your article to a meal with a balanced diet which has all the nutrients in the right proportions your body needs to grow strong and healthy.
Now, a well balanced article gives the reader the merits of your products in the right proportion from start to finish. Don’t jumble up all the merits of your products in one paragraph, then spend the rest of the article trying to con the customer into clicking your link. Leaving the potential customer wanting more from reading the body of your article is a vital aspect most articles lack. This is where the reader wants to visit your product site without being asked. Give them basic information about the advantages of having your product but always leave your article a touch incomplete. This leaves them wanting more and they eventually follow your link.
THE CONCLUSION: your article conclusion is embedded in the body of your article. It usually contains a strong call to action and it should be precise and bold. For example; “click this link and be projected into a world of jazz music.”
THE BIO BOX: the bio box of your article is usually associated with affiliate marketing where you write an article promoting someone else’s product. The bio box should contain your name as the author, a brief description of you and your website/weblog link. All this should be brief and precise.
Writing articles can lunch you into the online business world proper. If you define your time and dedicate it to writing and developing your articles, article writing would come to you naturally and you would be able to write articles on any niche topic, product or service.
