Warm-up Activity 3.1 The history of psychology is, to some degree, a history of influential individuals who made ground-breaking contributions to the field. The biographies of these individuals chronicle not only their great discoveries, but also their more common life details: marital strife, eccentric lifestyles, substance abuse, and other ordinary and unusual characteristics. To what degree should a theory be judged by the character of the theorist? No matter what your personal opinion may be of these individuals’ life stories, when discussing their ideas, it is important to avoid a logical fallacy called the ad hominen argument. Assignment For this assignment, you will present a transcript from a mock interview with five functionalist psychologists and thinkers: Charles Darwin, John Dewey, William James, G. Stanley Hall, and Leta Stetter Hollingsworth. Imagine that these theorists were asked the following five questions, and respond as you think each would respond. Draw on material regarding the professional activities, personal background, and characteristics of each person to make the interview informative, accurate, and realistic.

Feel free to include an additional question of any of the interviewees. Draw on the text and original source material from the theorists to prepare the interview. You may use other scholarly resources as well, but this is not a requirement. Cite the material you use appropriately and include a list of sources at the end of the transcript. Length: 5-7 pages, not including title and reference pages. Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic.
