Nursing Programs-how to Become a Nurse

A career in the medical field is a good choice nowadays. Due to increased demand for healthcare professionals, a career in nursing is especially popular. Nursing educational programs vary a great deal, and sometimes it is difficult to choose which program better fits one’s ambition, age, or financial situation. Basically, there are three different nursing programs available: a licensed vocational nurse (LVN), an associate degree in nursing, and a bachelor degree in nursing.

The simplest route to becoming a nurse is to enroll in a vocational nurse program. In Texas and California, the basic nursing career is called a licensed vocational nurse (LVN), but in other states it is called a licensed practical nurse (LPN).

Most vocational nursing programs can be finished in one year which is a great choice for people interested in a fast track to a nursing career. LVN programs have different entrance requirements. Some programs require prerequisites courses such as math, English, and medical terminology; others require only a high school diploma and a passing grade in the LVN pre – entrance exam.

After completing the LVN program, graduates receive a certificate or diploma in vocational (practical) nursing. Finally, they are required to take the National Council Licensure Exam. Passing this exam ensures that a LVN is ready to enter the nursing field at an entry level.

Licensed vocational nurses can also advance their careers by applying their LVN certificate toward the Registered Nurse bridge program. It is important to keep in mind that most vocational schools do not offer college credits. Therefore, if a graduate of a vocational school wants to become a Registered Nurse, he or she will need to take additional college courses in English, psychology and anatomy.

So, when looking for a vocational nurse program, it is important to choose only those schools where students have transferable credits.

The next path into nursing is to obtain an Associates Degree in Nursing. This program has to be approved by the state’s Board of Nursing and usually takes 2 years to complete. There is such a demand to attend this program at community colleges that in some cases there is a two to three year waiting list before one can enter the program.

Requirements for entrance includes chemistry, psychology, anatomy, microbiology, college level English and math courses. There are many private schools for those who do not want to lose time. However, the cost of such nursing programs could be about five times higher than in the community colleges.

In order to earn an RN license, one must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX). Although an Associate Degree allows a student to become a Registered Nurse, the Bachelor of Science Nursing program has the best advancement opportunities in the job market.

For example, a graduate with a BSN degree can get more prestigious positions such as nursing administration, management, or even work at an insurance company. BSN programs are usually taken at four year colleges or universities.

The prerequisites are the same as for a nursing associate program plus a few additional classes, such as sociology, speech and statistics. Students who already have their Associate degree in nursing can get their Bachelor of Science degree through a bridge program.

A good schooling alternative is through online programs. There are no waiting lists, and online courses are not complicated. It is very convenient to do homework from a home computer whenever one has time. The flexibility of studying online doesn’t interfere with a student’s current job and gives him or her the opportunity to work, make money, and at the same time earn a Bachelor degree.

There are online accelerated programs offering Registered Nurse to a Master of Science in Nursing degree bridge programs without having first obtained a Bachelor of Science degree Some students complete the RN to MSN program in as little as two years! A Masters degree in Nursing gives one unlimited opportunities in the medical field including starting a private practice as Nurse Practitioner.

All in all, the health care market has experienced a nursing shortage, and one cannot go wrong by entering the respected medical professional regardless of which path to nursing is chosen.

Why the Home Business Entrepreneur Must Think Positive and Stay Motivated

When I first decided to become an internet entrepreneur and start my own home businesses, I thought I was in for a walk in the park. I really thought that it was going to be simple… and much, much quicker. Now don’t get me wrong, I do not EVER regret making the decision to work for myself. I literally earn as much money in a day that I used to in a month, and I work just a couple hours a day, even though I do not really need to, but I enjoy it.

But now I realize why it is that only 5% out of the 6 million people who swarm to the internet each day to make money ACTUALLY MAKE ANY! It is not necessarily a simple thing to do. I mean, it definitely gets easier once you learn the ropes, get your hands on some good opportunities, and find the right resources and tools. But just getting started can be frustrating and disappointing.

I know that I personally spent a lot of unnecessary time and money because I was rushing in, not doing my homework, and choosing unreliable opportunities. And even after finding all of the ingredients that I needed to succeed as an internet entrepreneur, it still required thousands of hours worth of time and effort. But as I said, it was all worth it.

Take a look at just about any story of a successful entrepreneur, self made millionaire, or highly successful person in any field, and often you will learn that they succeeded because they had persistence. Being able to persist can allow you to overcome any challenge or obstacles, and therefore makes you unstoppable toward your goals.

But what is it that makes some people more persistent than others? It is all about attitude. People who start their home businesses with a positive attitude and a healthy expectation to succeed are much more likely to be persistent than people who start off negatively. These people are always looking for the possible reasons why they might fail, and therefore they give up as soon as something does not go perfectly.

A positive attitude is needed for the end game, for taking people that extra step, the step unsuccessful people were not willing to make. It is optimistic people, people who are sure of their own success who are never willing to give up, and therefore they reach there goals every time, even if they take more work than they originally thought.

But a positive attitude is not only needed for the end game, but also for putting forth effort in the beginning, when no guarantee of success is in sight. Motivation is the driving force of entrepreneurs and home business owners, and the more of it they have, the faster they propel themselves toward their goals.

Motivation is also the offspring of a positive mental attitude. When you know exactly what what you want and you have a clear objective to strive for, and you really believe that you are going to reach that goal, you will have more than enough motivation, enthusiasm, and passion to do anything necessary to get started and reach the finish line.

So how can you begin thinking more positively, therefore giving you more power to reach your goals? Well just as with anything else worthwhile in life, practice makes perfect. Begin watching your thoughts, and when you notice that you are thinking negatively, consciously make the switch to a more positive thought.

And how can you tell whether a thought is a positive thought or a negative one? By the way that you feel! When you feel bad, like when you are worried, stressed, or fearful, you are thinking about something you do not want. This is what you want to change. You only want to pay attention to the thoughts that make you feel good, confident, and always expecting the best.

Live On Agricultural Land In The Uk Legally Without Planning Permission

It does seem unlikely in our heavily regulated planning system that it would be possible to carry out any development on agricultural land without planning permission. However, as the book “Field to Farm” demonstrates, it is possible to live, build a barn and start a business, all without planning permission, on ordinary agricultural land in the United Kingdom. The book uses current planning law only and does not rely on the Human Rights Act, which has been used by some others to occupy land. Many people, at one time or another, have wanted to get away from it all, escape the rat race and live the “good life”; to buy a piece of land, live on it and keep a few animals. If you are one of these people, and this is your time, then this book is for you. It will guide you through the process, explaining all you need to know, pointing out the pitfalls.

The guide covers the following:

1. Acquisition of the land, what to look for, what to avoid.

2. Explain why planning permission is not required.

3. Siting and construction of the 465 square metre (5000 sq ft) barn.

4. Selection and siting of the dwelling.

5. The infrastructure and services.

6. A selection of businesses that can be run, and the tests that will need to be met, to get planning permission for a house.

7. How to set up and run your own touring caravan park without planning permission.

The usual way to start a smallholding is to buy a piece of land (you will be very lucky to find a piece close to where you live), then make a planning application to live on the land. For this application to be successful you will be required to prove “functional need”, which simply means you have to justify why you need to live on the land. In effect, this always means care and welfare of agricultural animals. This can be problematic if you have no animals. It will mean that when you seek planning permission it will only be supported by a business plan, which you will need to get from an experienced agricultural planning consultant, which costs money and time. The most successful method is to have an animal enterprise up and running and then apply for planning permission, although this can have its own problems. The council may well take the view that you have operated the animal enterprise without living on the land, so what is the need to live on it now? This is a “catch 22” situation. This approach can take a great deal of time and money, particularly if you have already bought the land. You will receive no help from the local authority planning department who, in general, are not keen on seeing new buildings in open countryside. Generally you will be fed misinformation about what you can and cannot do on agricultural land.

If you are successful in obtaining planning permission it will be for a mobile home for a period of 3 years (no extensions), and in this period you will need to prove “viability”. Passing the viability test means earning the minimum wage from the business for at least a period of 1 year out of the 3. If this test is met, then planning permission would be granted for a permanent dwelling which would be of a size commensurate with the income that can be earned from the holding, on the minimum wage. It would be a small house. It will also be necessary to demonstrate that the business is “sustainable” (in this context meaning “likely to continue” rather than environmentally friendly); this is normally demonstrated by continuing investment in the business or in an additional enterprise or building.

The house is likely to come with some planning restriction placed upon it. The usual one is that the house and land can only be sold together or an “agricultural tie” which restricts the people who can live in the house. Usually only people who are working in agriculture or forestry, or who have retired from the same, are allowed in an agriculturally tied house. Sometimes some of the permitted development rights are removed, which means you cannot extend the house without planning permission and this is unlikely to be granted. The right to have a mobile home within the curtilage of a dwelling house may also be removed, although I am not sure that this would be enforceable if the Measor Principle is applied (this is explained further in the planning chapter).

If you use this book as a guide when setting up your smallholding, the outcome will be more positive: no costly planning application, only a 28-day notice (an agricultural prior notice consent form). You may move onto the land and live on it for up to 5 years without making a planning application, which gives you ample time to establish an animal-based business, thus avoiding the “catch 22” situation. This means that any land that is bought can, with certainty, be used as a smallholding. An additional advantage is that the work of setting up the smallholding can start in weeks, not months or years, thus giving you the time to become a viable profitable enterprise rather than having to be profitable in your 1 year in 3.

Some people want their smallholding to give them a self-sufficient lifestyle, a laudable ideal, but this will be a difficult way to get planning permission for a house. There are Government guidelines given to planners whereby some smallholdings are allowed to operate at a subsistence level, so long as they contribute to the rural economy in some other way; an example would be by enhancing and maintaining the landscape. This would be a difficult route to getting planning permission, as the house you would be allowed to build would be tiny. It will be far easier to follow the system set out in this guide with a more certain outcome. To do this you will need to make money, as much money as you can. The more income you have, the better the house you can build. After you have built your house you can be as self-sufficient as you like.

The only way this system will work is to be realistic. Forget the good life: every opportunity for making money must be exploited. This is why it is critical to buy the right piece of land, in the right place, and to diversify. You will need a main animal enterprise to satisfy planning, but you can also do lots of other things at the same time. You could have a petting zoo or a touring caravan park, and do seasonal things such as sell bedding plants in spring, a maize maze in summer, pumpkins in October, Christmas trees and turkeys, or even a farm shop. The possibilities are endless.

The one thing that I will keep coming back to is the land. It must be right for what you want to do. It must be flat, at least in part, if you want a touring caravan park and not wet or heavy soil if you want to grow Christmas trees. It is better to read this book all the way through, decide what businesses you would like to run, and then see if the land is suitable. Do your local research to see if there are opportunities for what you want to do. If not, change what you want to do, or change the location. Whatever land you select, it must have road frontage. The road must go somewhere and must have passing traffic (as much as possible). Without this traffic you have little chance of selling things to the public without spending a lot of money on advertising. For a relatively modest investment you should end up with a smallholding with an asset value of at least two to three times your initial outlay. It could be even more, so, from an investment point of view, it would be hard to beat.

The qualities necessary to create a smallholding are physical fitness, common sense, willingness to learn new skills, tenacity, adaptability and, with a partner, shared ambitions. Some degree of physical fitness is a must as there is quite a lot of manual work involved; if you are not fit to start with, you soon will be! Common sense, if you do not know, ask! If you decide to keep a particular animal, take a course, these are normally run by people who specialise in that animal and have their own businesses. Other sources of information are books and magazines about smallholdings. You will soon learn; everybody has to start somewhere.

Be tenacious, without being stubborn; stick with it, but not to the bitter end. If something is not working, change it. If it looks like it’s not going to work, drop it. Always try to be adaptable. Remember that “The Good Life” was not only a joke about Margo and Jerry; the biggest jokes were often the Goods with their fixed ideas and intransigent ways of carrying out their Utopian plans. Watch, listen and learn. There is always another way to do any job and, you never know, it might be better than yours. If you are married, or with a partner, you must both be committed to doing this. It’s a hard slog and you are going to need each other; if both your hearts are not in it, don’t do it. So please be a realist and this method will work for you. Now you can get on with reading how to do it. Good luck!

Invention Company Rip-Offs

Last year I wrote an article titled Invention Company Scams and How To Avoid Them. In that article I stated that the FTC estimated that invention companies scammed the public for over $100 million dollars a year.

Guess what? I was wrong. The real figure is over $300 million dollars.

I am now convinced more than ever that the ongoing theft of new inventor money will continue unless the public is educated and made aware of these invention company rip-offs. The financial rip-offs will only get larger especially in this economic climate we live in today.

As people continue to struggle with their bills, they look for other resources or avenues to be able to make money. It is a known fact that more money is spent on State lotteries during bad times.  Although I do not have statistics, I will make an educated guess that the same is true for inventors spending (wasting) their money with invention company hype and sizzle.

As I mentioned a year ago, the number one reason new inventors get ripped off is ‘GREED’. All new inventors believe they are going to make millions of dollars with their new gizmo or gadget. They get sucked into the web of the invention companies hype and sizzle. They listen to slick talking commissioned salespeople (they don’t know that at the time) and they believe what they hear because it sounds so good. The problem is the new inventor won’t realize they were scammed until after it is too late.

Well, if you are reading this article now and if you have not yet paid any money to any one of these scam companies, congratulations!

Now is the time for you to do your homework and research the invention industry. There are many excellent resources on the Internet that will provide you invention information from patents to marketing to product evaluations. These resources are free, just do the research.

Be careful though when browsing on the Internet. Don’t fall prey to the invention companies that advertise on the sponsored ad sections. If you are not familiar with sponsored ads, they are usually the ones placed on the right side of the search page you typed in your key word.

What may seem like an innocent internet search for you after you just had your eureka moment is an opportunity for the invention scam company to go to work.  Collectively they pay millions of dollars to respected search engines so that they can be on the first page of every keyword search.  This makes them seem that much more legitimate. Don’t be fooled by the repetition of the ads.

Some of the key points to look for in an ad by a scam company are:

  1. Free Inventor’s Kit or any other free offering
  2. Usually any ad where the title of the ad is a question
  3. How To statements such as How To Patent an Idea, or How To Market Your Invention, or How To Launch Your Invention

These are just some of the key points to look out for.

Please understand that there are many legitimate companies out there that can help inventors and we simply want you to be able to recognize the difference. If you fall prey to a scam invention marketing company you may even risk your ability to acquire strong patent protection in the future.

Some of the positive Internet sites to look for are:

  1. Invention Clubs or Organizations in your area
  2. Invention publications
  3. Any Federal or State Agencies such as the United States Patent and Trademark Office or the FTC.

As you research all of the sites above, you will better prepare yourself for moving forward with your invention idea and more importantly keep your money in your pockets.
