Wear Test Report Guidelines
Objectives:
Wash Points
Points are accumulated during 4 testing wash weeks. Socks must be turned in on the designated date and picked up in lab. Each drop off is worth 10 points for a total of 40 points. In order to receive the 40 wash and pick up points, you must submit a completed report. Also, you must post your data to the evaluation discussion board within the given time period.
Format for Report:
Final report will be submitted online via Turnitin. No hard copies will be accepted.
Include a cover page in APA with the following information: Name, Date, Course, and Title of your report.
Paper formatting: Double-spaced, 1” margins, page numbers, Times New Roman (12pt),APA style headings/subheadings, and use APA format for citations and reference page.
This is a technical report. Do not use first-person.
Abstract:
After your cover page, this is the first page of the report. An abstract is a summary of a paper. Title your abstract page with the word Abstract. Provide a short overview of the entirewear test report. (Abstract should be no more than 150 words.) Do not attempt to write the abstract before you have finished your entire paper. If this is written before completion of the report, it tends to summarize only the first half and not the entire report. Make certain you are summarizing the report and findings as opposed to summarizing the steps of the project. The abstract stands alone on its own page.
Purpose:
After the abstract, start your report on a new sheet and continue with no page breaks. Here you will discuss what was being investigated and why. Take some time to think about this. Remember, we want to know the purpose of the wear test, not the purpose of assigning you the project. Consider answering these questions to provide an overall understanding of the purpose: Why do we care about how a textile product performs under use and care by the target market?Who is the target market and what is their expectation of this product (wants and needs)? What does a wear test tell us about howan end-product performs when used by the target market? Why is this information important to the consumer? To the manufacturer? To the retailer? The purpose should be about 1 page long.
Background:
The background offers some basic information about the performance categories and properties to be evaluated. You will define the following categories and properties: Aesthetics (pilling propensity, snagging propensity), Maintenance(dimensional stability, stain resistance). Consider why these specific categories/properties are being tested for this particular product. For each property tested, how does each contribute to its respective performance category? In addition to defining each category tested, you should provide the following for each property: definition, causes of problems, and importance to the product. The background should be approximately1 – 1 ½ pages long
Method:
At the beginning of the method section, describe the socks that were tested in detail. The information will be given to you on a separate sheet. Also, describe the tests you conducted in detail. While everyone in class is familiar with the tests, imagine someone outside of class is reading this report. You will want to give good details so they understand the standardized tests thoroughly. How did you evaluate the socks, what exactly did you do? The method should be approximately1½ pages long.
Analysis of Data:
Include text that explains, overall, what the results were. Generate graphs from the information provided to you and interpret the graphs. Each tests’ results should be discussed in its own paragraph. In your written paper, be sure to identify the graphs (Graph 1). As the evaluator, consider the following questions and provide textile-related answers: How did the socks perform for each property tested? Why do you think the socks performed as they did? In relation to the categories evaluated, how did the socks perform? Overall, what is the final result for the socks’ serviceability based on the properties tested? Did the socks meet the needs of the target market? Reference data and results to support your response. This section should be 1 ½ – 2 pages long.
Recommendations:
Given the overall results for the socks’ serviceability, what properties/categories need improvement? What textile related changes would you make to improve performance? (Make certain your suggestions are feasible and in line with the target market, price point, and retailer product assortments.) If not, suggest changes. This section should be 1 – 2 pages long.
Data Collection:
Complete the data table. The results should be included in your paper.
Graphs:
Graphs must be completed detailing results. You should have the following graphs:
Each graph should be on its own page and placed at the end of the report (before the reference sheet). Be sure that graphs are correctly and completely labeled. Pages with graphs must also be numbered.
References:
Your wear test report requires you to use at least 3 references. Remember to use APA format and don’t forget to reference quotes properly within the text.
Total number of pages: 15-20 pages
