BE SPECIFIC- Focus on a VERY specific topic from religion, philosophy, government, history, social practice, geography, natural resources (Animal, vegetable, mineral), weather, medical related issues (diseases, etc.), music, dance, visual art, sculpture, jewelry, textiles, or SPECIFIC events in a person’s life.
Regardless of Topic such as Natural Resources, government or history- It Must relate to a SPECIFIC PRE-COLUMBIAN MESOAMERICAN society and culture as this is not a poli-sci, natural science or history class.
EXAMPLE: Don’t discuss “Religion of Meso-America,” discuss ONLY ONE Specific ritual of ONE Specific Meso-American People (Maya, Olmec, Zapatec, Mixtec, Toltec, Aztec, and Inca). Instead, discuss the blood-letting of the Maya royalty in order to appease the gods.
EXAMPLE: Don’t just discuss “Architecture of Meso-America,” discuss ONLY ONE Specific architectural example of a Specific Meso-American People (Maya, Olmec, Zapatec, Mixtec, Toltec, Aztec, and Inca) and how that architecture affects a specific that Society or Culture. Instead, discuss the Pyramid of the Sun and how that architecture represents the surrounding natural geography. REMEMBER: A COUNTRY IS NOT A PEOPLE, so do not simply state the people of Mexico or Peru!!
Do not write a Compare/Contrast paper as that describes two topics, not Only-One-Single-Specific topic.
Do not write an overall biography of a person. Rather, focus on Only-One-Single-Specific incident in their life.
Please Note: All topics and sources Must be approved by the Professor Prior to writing your paper.
