Marriage definition essay
Marriage refers to a union of two people; man and woman who come together as husband and wife to share the rest of their lives. Marriage occurs before a huge congregation or at least in front of a few witnesses. A priest is invited to bid the couple or at times the couple may decide to ask a judge rather than a priest. Whichever way the couple chooses it is expected that they have to make promises to each other that they will stick together and be there for each other in times of joy or health and even in times of sickness and thin. In most times the woman takes the last name of the husband and that signifies that they have become one family. After the two have been married, they are supposed to remain together and show not only unity but also high levels of friendship.
Marriage also calls for continuous support on finances and emotionally. Married couples are expected to share life challenges and fully depend on each other. For instance, the couple should work together to support one household. However, the married couple can have an agreement where one person goes to work early morning and the other is left taking care of other household chaos and children. Irrespective of the arrangement that the couple may have the husband and wife should support each other when handling financial and emotional issues that may affect them. As a good indication that the two are married, they should share or encourage each other on issues that may stress either of them. Marriage couples can be found sharing bank counts, waiting late for one another if they are not home or even offering a listening ear in times of need.
Marriage is considered a rite of passage. People are expected to marry when they reach a certain age and this commitment to each other should last even in times of extreme difficulties. The vows that the two make should not be broken simply because there was a misunderstanding. Therefore, all those that witnessed the couple marry should support them to uphold their marriage. When one decides to marry, he or she is simply telling the world that they have found a person who completes them. From my perspective a spouse should have qualities that the other does not. Thus, joining the two in marriage will not only be completing the other but will actually be making the other better. Though there may be ups and down in a marriage the couple should work their issue in harmony for the sake of their relationship as well as their children who require a peaceful happy home.
Marriage should be taken seriously and respected. Though it is said to be essential to adults, it is not compulsory for everybody and there is no definite time for marrying. The decision to marry should be a personal decision, since the vows made to the other should be made purely out of love and acceptance of the other person. It is not recommended that a person decides to get marriage to make them or things look better but for the sole reason of getting into a lifelong covenant with the other person. Though marriage does not come with a manual of instructions on how things should be done, it is expected that the couple understands each other while in marriage. By doing so they will not only know what their marriage partner wants but also manage to life a long happy life.
