Computer Privacy
The first public cell phone call was made on April 3rd, 1973 by Martin Cooper. Since then, technology has improved andadvanced in a short amount of time.Technology is a primary resource right now and is being used every day. With technology advancing, computer based professions are growing and expanding into many fields. As a career choice, I plan on pursuing a career in computer technology and getting a job as a computer tech provider. When thinking more about my career choice, I realized that I could face some challenges that I wouldn’t be comfortable with. For example, my boss might suspect that a co-worker in the company may not always be working on their work; they may be going to other websites while they are supposed to be working. As a result, I might be told to find out if they haven’t been working by checking their computer and looking at all of their information. I feel that it isn’t right to see other people’s information because it could be very private information.
My boss could tell me he suspects that the person is going on their email and/or social media websites when they should be working. So, in order to find out for proof, my boss could tell me that he needs me to go into that person’s computer and get all of their history including emails, social media information, etc.

The reason my boss would tell me to do this is because he wants me to get the times when they were on the websites or social media sites for proof. It wouldn’t be right to be reading and looking at all of the things that they have sent and visited. This could be very private information that my boss and I have no business knowing because some of it could be personal to that person. There could be credit card information, passwords to things, etc. I know that I will have to listen to what my boss tells me to do, but I still think that it is wrong to go into other peoples computers and look at their information without their permission. The boss needs to find out if they haven’t been doing their job in a better way like by getting the suspected person to come with the boss to their office to question him/her. That is the right way to find out instead of going behind their back and going into their computer to see all of their information.
There are some things that some people would say to be against my opinion. They might say that these people are getting paid to work for the business, so they shouldn’t be on their email and/or social media sites. They could say that it is okay to find out by searching their computer. I agree with this except for going into their computer because it isn’t right to see others information. I think that if an employee isn’t doing their job, then the boss should definitely know about it. The way the boss should handle it is by either questioning them and/or asking their permission to go through their computer. If they say yes, then it would then be appropriate for the boss to ask me to look through their computer.
