General and Special Revelation
According to various religious fields, revelation mostly refers to the disclosure of the truth and other forms of hidden knowledge through supernatural or extra-ordinary procedures (Moller, 2013). In Orthodox religious systems and Muslim religious teaching practices there are a number of revelations that were revealed to their past religious leaders through divine avenues (Cao, 2012). In Christianity teachings most of their teachings are based on revelations and God inspired visions. In nontraditional Christian teachings there are various disclosures of the knowledge of God to human beings through nature and natural happenings. The main purpose of this paper is to discuss general revelation as well as, special revelation especially in nontraditional Christian teachings .The paper will also outline and discuss how the general revelation is part of the world religion and how various global religions are influenced by the concept of general revelation
General revelation usually does not present gospel information, and mostly deals with the existence of God; while special revelation mostly deals with the bible, and the Jesus Christ activities including salvation, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ (Moller, 2013). Revelation is one of the major methods through which human beings usually receive communication from God. It mainly involves God revealing Himself to human beings through nature and other supernatural procedures. General revelation usually involves God revealing Himself to the human kind through observation of various God supernatural powers in the universe including God’s wonderful creations (Clavier, 2013). All human beings are able to witness the general revelation unlike special revelation which is mostly excluded to a few individuals. In most cases, God’s divine powers are witnessed by various individuals in the world through general revelation and this mostly confirms the existence of God’s external powers in nature (Christie, 2013). Therefore, general revelation involves God’s disclosure of His powers to all individuals in the world at all times and in various places. General revelation in nontraditional Christian teachings mostly indicates that God is very intelligent, powerful and is omnipresent (Moller, 2013).
On the other hand, special revelation mostly involves God’s miraculous disclosure to human beings through dreams, visions as well as other written word of God procedures. One of the major physical appearances of God to human kind which is an example of special revelation is the birth of Jesus Christ (Bhattacharya, & Mukherjee, 2013). There are also various special revelations that the nontraditional Christians currently receives through dreams, visions as well as through reading the word of God especially the Bible. It is through God powers that the authors of the Bible were guided by God in order to write the Bible which mostly indicates God’s special revelations including revelation of God’s personalities and characteristics (Moller, 2013). The truth and knowledge about God is mostly revealed to human beings through reading of the Bible and God effectively uses this method in order to reveal everything about him to the humanity.
Jesus Christ is one of the major examples of special revelation that God used to ensure that humanity understand His characteristics and attributes (Bhattacharya, & Mukherjee, 2013). In this special revelation, God manifest himself through becoming human being and he sent His son Jesus Christ to reveal Himself to humanity. Unlike in the traditional Christian society where God revealed Himself through prophets, in the nontraditional Christian settings God used His own Son Jesus Christ in order to reveal Himself to human beings (Moller, 2013). Jesus Christ was born, identified with human beings practices, and set one of the best examples of human Christian living procedures. He taught human beings in order to reveal God’s inner characteristics, and personalities through performing of various miracles (Cao, 2012). He also provides the humanity with salvation that saves them from their sins leading to restoration of faith with God. Therefore, Jesus Christ, Son of God is one of the best example of special revelation through which God revealed himself to humanity through physical appearance of His son. Jesus Christ also died and resurrected to indicate to humanity that God had power over death as well as nature (Moller, 2013).
In most cases, General revelation forms the basis of world religion and influences world religion in a number of ways. This is because most of the natural revelation that various religions aspire are mainly based on general revelation. God various creations that human beings witness everyday including wildlife and plants is one of the examples of general revelation (Cao, 2012). The general revelation is usually revealed to the general audience and God used it to communicate to humanity about His existence, power and His glory in the world (Paredes-Collins, 2013). The current evolution of human intelligence is one of the examples of general revelation that influence the world religion systems. General revelation occurs at all times in all places globally, thus influences world religion to a wider perspective. All the creations of the world are examples of general revelation to show that God is the creator of the universe (Cao, 2012). Therefore, general revelation is mostly shown through disclosure of God in external nature and supernatural powers. It provides the moral obligations of God’s personalities and attributes to all human kind at all times in all places. It is the universal revelation of God to humanity through existence of nature and it mostly presents the will of God to humanity in various nontraditional Christian teachings (Moller, 2013).
In conclusion, from this paper it is clear that general revelation involves God disclosure of His Powers and characteristics to humanity through nature. It is common to all human kind and mostly manifests through God creations and other supernatural concepts revealing God’s existence to Human kind. Special revelation involves God revelation to humanity through dreams, visions as well as through physical appearance. A good example of special revelation is the appearance and the birth of Jesus Christ who is the Son of God. The scriptures reading such as the Bible is also one of the major common nontraditional special revelation systems.
