Issue Presented: The issue for debate this week relates to the methods of force that the U.S. has used in pursuing the conflict with al Qaeda and affiliated entities. As the conflict continues, the U.S. has increasingly used unmanned aerial vehicles, UAVs, (better known as drones) to conduct attacks in countries all over the world. Critics of this policy have claimed that such operations amount to extrajudicial killings and are forbidden under international and domestic laws. Proponents, on the other hand, argue that the attacks are necessary in the conduct of the war on terror, prevent the loss of innocent lives, and have proven extraordinarily effective in degrading the capacities of America’s enemies.

Both the Obama Administration and the Trump Administration appear to support a wide ranging use of drones, with President Obama vastly expanding their use as compared to President Bush, and President Trump relaxing some of the regulations President Obama put in place regarding their use.

The question for discussion this week is simple: is U.S. policy employing the use of UAVs to conduct lethal strikes legal under international and domestic law, and is it effective?


In addressing this question, I expect you to engage in the policy analysis that we have been doing throughout the course. Reference the authors in your textbooks and supplemental readings where appropriate, and state your own position. You posting should be no less than 150 words.

Examine a significant way that the Joint Commission has influenced the basic functions of HRM and predict the likely impact of the policies and procedures at the your acute hospital. Provide support for your rationale.

Analyze the importance of collaboration between HR and department managers when filling open positions, indicating the most likely impact on the hiring process.

Steven Price is the President and CEO of FINCorp, an upstart financial services firm in Richmond, Virginia, that offers online personal finance products, tax consulting and retirement and investment recommendations to its clients. Since its incorporation in 2009, FINCorp has been very successful, growing from a workforce of 15 accountants and financial analysts to over 150 staff members, including economic forecasters, six marketing teams, 35 accountants and tax specialists and investment banking professionals. The average age of Price’s employees is 30.

As the director of FINCorp’s human resources department, you oversee the company’s hiring and staffing processes. In the last six months, you’ve realized several problems that you fear will eventually hurt the company’s bottom line: newly hired staff members in all sectors of the company are staying in their positions an average of only a year and a half. Also, a recent company engagement survey, sent to all employees online to gauge morale, personal work interests and fulfillment as well as work habits, revealed that over 60% of all employees are not satisfied with their work and their impact. The conclusion of the survey reveals that millennials in your company are not happy, engaged and, therefore, not productive.

You share this news with your boss, Mr. Price. Naturally, he is concerned. He has heard of a popular series of talks given by Simon Sinek, an expert on business leadership.
