Explain how these new insights might impact your role, or future role, as a public health leader

This week’s self-assessment, located in your course text (Chapter 4 Page 138), includes one brief individual leadership assessment entitled, “Narcissism,”

For this Personal Leadership Journal, complete the “Narcissism” assessment. As a scholar-practitioner of public health leadership, what might the assessment reveal about your perspective on topic of Narcissism? Consider how Narcissism may impact your role in the field of public health.

The Assignment (2–3 paragraphs):

  • Explain new insights gained based on your results of the “Narcissism” assessment
  • Explain how these new insights might impact your role, or future role, as a public health leader

Describe the disease and include data on current incidence, prevalence, and mortality rates and projections for the next five years.

Select a public health program that is working toward reducing a health disease such as diabetes, heart disease, HIV/AIDS, or asthma. Based on your selection, respond to the questions below.

  • Explain the historical need for the program, the theoretical background on which the program is designed, the services offered (in brief), and the significance of the program in a brief introduction.
  • Describe the disease and include data on current incidence, prevalence, and mortality rates and projections for the next five years. Address interventions and treatment options to change the status quo of this epidemic. Present the data in a tabular or graphical form.
  • Compare and contrast how this disease is affecting different racial and ethnic groups. On the basis of your calculations, what information can you conclude?
  • Identify the resources needed to treat this disease, including facilities, equipment, pharmaceuticals, research, funding, and healthcare professionals and estimate the resources needed over the next five years. Explain the estimates.

Personal Public Health Leadership Theory

For your final written assignment, you refine and develop your Public Health Leadership Theory based on leadership theories and a systems approach learned in this course. For this Assignment, your theory should reflect Instructor feedback, researched studies, introspection, innovation, and literature analysis.

Section 1 — Abstract and Introduction (1–2 pages)

Section 2 — Revised Literature Review and Problem Statement (5–7 pages):

  • Literature Review to include:
    • A synthesis of the literature of 15–20 peer reviewed, scholarly resources
    • A description of theoretical gaps in the research
  • Problem Statement to include:
    • An explanation of the specific problem that addresses identified gaps within the literature
    • An explanation of how your problem statement incorporates implications for positive social change.

Section 3 — Personal Public Health Leadership Theory (2–3 pages):

  • An articulation of your personal Public Health Leadership Theory

Section 4 — Revised Visual Representation of Your Public Health Leadership Theory (3–4 pages):

Your visual representation should include:

  • Your personal Public Health Leadership Theory to address the gaps identified in the literature
  • A visual representation of the theory (e.g. table, graph, matrix)
  • A explanation on how the theory addresses the literature gap identified in Week 5
  • A description of how your theory incorporates aspects of systems thinking

Section 5 — Empirical Evaluation Plan for a Public Health Leadership Theory (3–4 pages):

You will assess if the newly developed leadership theory addresses the problem you have been working on. What methodological steps will you use? How will you collect data? Suggestion – start with how theories in our text are evaluated. It does not have to be detailed, but it must include the methods, measures and analytic techniques.

If the assignments are done correctly, there should be an alignment from the topic of choice to the evaluation:

  • The topic is researched in the literature
  • The literature review points out a theoretical gap that needs to be addressed by leadership
  • The gap is turned into a problem statement
  • A leadership theory to address the problem proposed
  • The theory is depicted in a visual; and finally
  • An evaluation plan describes how the newly developed theory resolves the problem identified in the literature

Section 6 — Conclusion (1–2 pages)

Section 7 — References

  • An APA-formatted reference list of 15–20 peer-reviewed, scholarly journals

differences between Leader-Exchange Theory and Social Network Theory.

For this Discussion, think about the similarities and differences between Leader-Exchange Theory and Social Network Theory. Consider how you might integrate each theory into your own personal, unified leadership theory. Think about how you might use this theory in a public health scenario.

BY DAY 4

Post a brief comparison (similarities and differences) between Leader-Member Exchange and Social Network Theory. Then, explain how you might integrate Leader-Member Exchange Theory and Social Network Theory into your personal, unified leadership theory. Finally, relate this personal, unified theory to a public health scenario with which you are familiar.

ED-based public health surveillance.

Varney and Hirshon list seven general rationales for providing ED-based public health surveillance. Surveillance is a critical form of communication for public health officials. Choose a real public health outbreak, disaster, or crisis. Provide one example of how any of the concepts described in this paper were actually used to improve public health. Describe the intervention for your classmates. Cite your reference.

Examine the existing procedures related to at least four (4) of the ten (10) essential public health services.

Assignment 5: Public Health Preparedness

You have just been hired as a new Vice President of quality and safety for a full-service 600-bed government healthcare organization. Within your first month on the job, the national security threat level has been raised to Imminent, which means there is a credible, specific, and impending terrorist threat against the United States, and your facility may be directly impacted. The Chief Executive Officer has requested an immediate six to eight-page report of your proposal for handling such a situation.

Note: You may create and /or make all necessary assumptions needed for the completion of this assignment.

Write a 6-8 page paper in which you:

  1. Examine the existing procedures related to at least four (4) of the ten (10) essential public health services. Focus on the principal effects that these procedures will have on your hospital during the emergency.
  2. Specify the importance of continuing to evaluate patients, as stipulated by the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA), during the emergency.
  3. Detail three (3) measures that you would use in order to maintain the electronic medical record system during the emergency.
  4. Defend your position on the decision to accept health insurance during the emergency as a potential source of income for the facility. Provide support with at least three (3) examples that illustrate your position.
  5. Analyze the extent to which this emergency might affect the quality of care provided to the patients and the unimpeded operation of the organization.
  6. Use at least three (3) quality references. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as academic resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:
