Complete an analysis of the key internal factors that have implications for successful implementation of your organization’s strategy and goals/objectives. Submit your work in your assignment folder in the form of an approximate 2,000-word double-spaced APA-formatted paper. The title page, reference list, and any appendices are not included in this suggested word count. You do not need to include an abstract.

Your paper should address these topics:

Identify your company’s core competencies and assess which ones are rare, costly, or not easily imitated.
Present a summary of your organization’s strengths and potential (or currently verifiable) competitive capabilities. Also summarize the organization’s weaknesses. (Note: You will have an opportunity to complete a full SWOT analysis, including threats and opportunities, as part of your week 6 paper.) Prepare a document that expresses your deliberation that justifies your vote of guilty or not guilty. The goal is not simply a writing assignment but for you to show off your critical thinking skills. The case is designed to contain numerous types of illicit reasoning on both sides.


  1. Use Judge Schwebel’s Summation and Charge to the Jury as a guide.
  2. You should include in your account all of the witnesses as well as the Defense attorney and District (State) attorney.
  3. Identify weaknesses within your own position (thus avoid the appearance giving a Strawman). For example, if you think the verdict should be guilty, identify weaknesses with your side.

· The trick, and this is important, is that you explain why the weaknesses of your position is not enough to consider a change in verdict (thus, you provide both sides – think Chapter 16.

The project grade is competitive in the following sense. 20% of the students will set the standard for an A. Grades will then be based on how close a project compares to top projects. It is, of course, possible, that all students receive an A because all projects demonstrate mastery.

It is also possible that everyone fail should it happen that (a) no one submits a project (b) all projects are less that 1,250 words or (c) no project contains a citation reference to demonstrate understanding of the text. Though possible, with this class the evidence suggests it is quite unlikely.

Gregory G. Dess is the Andrew R. Cecil Endowed Chair in Management at the University of Texas at Dallas. His primary research interests are in strategic management, organization- environment relationships, and knowledge management. He has published numerous articles on these subjects in both academic and practitioner-oriented journals. He also serves on the editorial boards of a wide range of practitioner-oriented and academic journals. In August 2000, he was inducted into the Academy of Management Journal’s Hall of Fame as one of its charter members. Professor Dess has conducted executive programs in the United States, Europe, Africa, Hong Kong, and Australia. During 1994 he was a Fulbright Scholar in Oporto, Portugal. In 2009, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bern (Switzerland). He received his PhD in Business Administration from the University of Washington (Seattle) and a BIE degree from Georgia Tech.

Gerry McNamara is the Eli Broad Professor of Management at Michigan State University. His research draws on cognitive and behavioral theories to explain strategic phenomena, including strategic decision making, mergers and acquisitions, and environmental assessments. His research has been published in the Academy of Management Journal, the Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, the Journal of Applied Psychology, the Journal of Management, and the Journal of International Business Studies. Gerry’s research has also been abstracted in the Wall Street Journal, Harvard Business Review, New York Times, Bloomberg Businessweek, the Economist, and Financial Week. He serves as an Associate Editor for the Strategic Management Journal and previously served as an Associate Editor for the Academy of Management Journal. He received his PhD from the University of Minnesota.

Alan B. Eisner is Professor of Management and Department Chair, Management and Management Science Department, at the Lubin School of Business, Pace University. He received his PhD in management from the Stern School of Business, New York University. His primary research interests are in strategic management, technology management, organizational learning, and managerial decision making. He has published research articles and cases in journals such as Advances in Strategic Management, International Journal of Electronic Commerce, International Journal of Technology Management, American Business Review, Journal of Behavioral and Applied Management, and Journal of the International Academy for Case Studies. He is the former Associate Editor of the Case Association’s peer-reviewed journal, The CASE Journal.

Seung-Hyun Lee is a Professor of strategic management and international business and the Area Coordinator of the Organization, Strategy, and International Management area at the Jindal School of Business, University of Texas at Dallas. His primary research interests lie on the intersection between strategic management and international business spanning from foreign direct investment to issues of microfinance and corruption. He has published in numerous journals including Academy of Management Review, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Business Venturing, and Strategic Management Journal. He received his MBA and PhD from the Ohio State University.

The second release of this simulation adds a new scenario with multiple unanticipated events and the ability to add prototypes to the project plan. In this single-player simulation, students take on the role of a senior project manager and manage a team tasked with developing a new product for an electronics manufacturing company. The primary objectives are to execute a project plan successfully and deliver a competitive product on time and on budget. Instructors can assign up to 6 scenarios that expose students to realistic challenges that project managers often face, especially when working in a highly competitive industry. Some challenges require students to react to unanticipated outside events, such as a staffing crisis, while others require students to respond to strategic changes mandated by upper management. A new project lever for specifying prototypes allows students to explore the benefits of this essential component of agile project management.

You recently read an article in the Detroit Free Press about employee complaints at Megahuge Products, a local manufacturing company. Apparently, Megahuge outsourced some systems development work to LittleKnown Development Corp. in Smalltown, Arkansas (located down the street from Smalltown Engineering, Inc.). After nearly nine months of working on a new order processing system, LittleKnown Development Corp. deliverd a very effective system at 90% of the originally estimated cost and two weeks before the project deadline.

The Free Press article went on to say that the employees of Megahuge, while they were aware that someone on the outside was doing some analysis of their current systems, had no direct involvement with LittleKnown Development Corp. during the last nine months. Megahuge management stated that the project was completely under control, and that the nature of the project was such that the lower-level employees would not have understood the strategic implications, managerial processes, or technical specifications.

The article concluded by saying that the Megahuge employees seemed to be overly bitter given the fact that the new system is over 50% faster than the old system and much easier to use. Also, the article seemed to support the actions of LittleKnown Development Corp. and implied that this was the norm for large-scale systems development projects in this day and age.

Organize the information: Consider the LATCH acronym from the Unit IV Lesson, and decide which organizational strategy best fits your content. Choose the order you will present the sections in your handbook as well as where you need headings, subheadings, and/or bulleted or enumerated lists to make information clear. Include page numbers and a separate page for a table of contents.
Incorporate visuals: Include a separate title page and at least three visuals in your employee handbook. Your organization’s logo can be one visual. The remaining two visuals should present vital information to readers.
Part I: The finished document should be a total of at least seven pages. This includes the title page and table of contents. While this assignment does not require APA-formatted citations and references to be included, you do need to keep copyright in mind. This handbook is a part of your business, and if you take a copyrighted logo or image from someone, your business could get sued.
