Explain the theoretical perspectives of each of these chosen areas.

Prior to beginning this discussion, please read the following required articles:

  • “Language Acquisition Socialization: Sociocognitive and Complexity Theory Perspectives”
  • “The Learning Brain: Lessons for Education: A Précis”
  • “The Cultural-Historical Foundations of the Zone of Proximal Development”
  • “Self-Determination, Self-Regulation, and the Brain: Autonomy Improves Performance by Enhancing Neuroaffective Responsiveness to Self-Regulation Failure”
  • “Acquisition, Learning, or Development of Language? Skinner’s ‘Verbal Behavior’ Revisited”
  • “Linguistic variation and micro-cues in first language acquisition.”

Based on your resources this week, choose three areas of language acquisition that you found most interesting and that were unknown to you prior to this week.

In your initial post,

  • Explain the theoretical perspectives of each of these chosen areas.
  • Apply skeptical inquiry to a brief discussion about why language acquisition is an important area for scholars and educators to understand when developing learning opportunities.
  • Apply the concept of language acquisition to your own academic success. Has your own language development affected your success as a student? As an employee? How? Based on the resources and your current knowledge, do you believe you could develop areas of language acquisition, personally, that would be beneficial to you, your loved ones, or your friends?

Your initial post should be at least 500 words in length and thoroughly discuss each of the elements in the prompt.

Quantitative Studies

This is an ongoing assignment please use attachments:

Please label assignment 12

Using the articles from previous activities or 4 new quantitative studies create a chart to provide a visual graphic of dependent and independent variables and align with the selected theory in response to the research question. Following the Prospectus description for the Statement of the Problem in the Doctoral Project Manual, use the criteria and information from previous activities to draft your Statement of the Problem. Use your Research Question as your focus for the discussion. Clearly identify the parameters of your inquiry using the current literature. Establish what is known and unknown, using current literature from the last 5 years, relevant to the variables you have identified.

Submit chart using points of emphasis above. 1 or 2 pages.

In separate document labeled assignment 13:

Submit Quantitative Studies Paper: Write a 3-5 page paper using six research articles using one of the charts designed during the class. Refine the chart as needed to reflect the focus of your paper and new articles. Include charts, tables, and graphs as an appendix at the end of the paper. The main purpose for this activity is to present an issue via the exploration of clear factors and applicable theory as they relate to your research interest. This academic discourse will allow you to use your critical thinking skills to analyze the different factors and then draw conclusions based on the evidence you present. Prepare a 3-5 page quantitative studies paper on a specific topic of interest. Assert your research question and applicable theory.  Select the predominate factor and provide insights for two perspectives. Provide evidence from quantitative research to support your position. Use the following outline:
Provide an introduction (include research question, hypothesis and applicable theory)Follow with the background of the problemPresent the statement of the problemProvide a discussion of two perspectives regarding the selected predominate factor and link to the applicable theoryFinally, draw conclusions based on what you have presented·  Again, include one of the graphs, tables, or charts to reflect the statistical significance of the factors you have identified. Include them as an appendix to your paper. Your discussion does not include the cover page, references, or appendices.

Submit paper of your discussion using points of emphasis above. 3-5 pages.

Role of the Family

****Please keep in mind that providing scholarly support for all assignments is needed and that support must be cited and referenced in APA style. Appropriate scholarly sources need to be used and bulk information cannot be taken from other sources*****

The importance of families cannot be overstated in dealing with children with exceptionalities. Despite the high incidence of exceptionalities such as learning disabilities and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, families often feel isolated and experience significant stress.

Using the module readings, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, research the roles of families and the positive and negative impact children with disabilities can have on the family.

Be sure to review the following article from the readings for this module:

  • Dyson, L. (2010). Unanticipated effects of children with learning disabilities on their families. Learning Disability Quarterly, 33, 43–55. (Search the library using the name of the article and/or the name of the author to retrieved this from the library. It is in the EBSCO Host database).

Based on your research, address the following:

  • Provide a brief overview of the main points of the article.
  • Describe at least two things you learned from the article.
  • Describe the potential challenges and benefits for families who have one or more children with exceptionalities.
  • Evaluate the influence of the cultural background of children with high-incidence exceptionalities (such as learning disabilities) on how they are approached by the following:
    • Their families
    • Their schools
    • Their communities
  • Describe the ecocultural perspective. Based on your readings, describe supports or interventions you would recommend from this perspective. Be sure to address families, schools, and communities.

Write a 3–5-page paper in Word format. Be sure to include separate title and reference pages. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

This is 3-5 pages of actual content, not 3-5 pages overall.

****Make sure you use current scholarly sources of research no more than seven years old, not old sources, general websites, general sources, etc. See the reminders in the course.

****Bulk information should not be used from other sources including listing of information from other sources, bulk quoting, block quotes, etc.

What is the dramatic moment in the “The Fourth of July?” How does Lorde tell the story in a way that makes that moment especially effective?

Though Lorde says that the story she tells here really happened to her, it as carefully constructed as any short story. One aspect of story construction she pays special attention to is setting things up in such a way that the dramatic moment will have its greatest impact. What is the dramatic moment in the “The Fourth of July?” How does Lorde tell the story in a way that makes that moment especially effective? Explore this by analyzing the organization of Lorde’s essay. Respond with detailed observations about how the paragraphs, sentences, and information are structured.

Discuss research findings on cultural differences in the expression of emotion, interpretation of behavior, and traditions

Imagine a local company has contacted you regarding new employees from a different culture.

Choose a culture outside of those represented in your Learning Team.

Create an 8- to 10-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint®, research-based presentation to help employees understand cultural differences in the expression of emotion and the interpretation of behaviors and traditions. Include the following in your presentation:

  • Discuss research findings on cultural differences in the expression of emotion, interpretation of behavior, and traditions
  • Translate the research results into everyday terms, as your audience will be people unfamiliar with psychological jargon.
  • Apply the research findings to your chosen culture.

Include a minimum of three credible, peer-reviewed resources in your presentation.

Format the citations in your presentation consistent with APA guidelines.

consult the DSM Differential Diagnosis section for your chosen disorder as a guide; however, also integrate information from your literature review with the discussion.

Course Project Task V  Assessment and Diagnostic Plan  You have reached the point in the course project when you will begin to focus on the practical application of your research knowledge and the skills you’ve practiced through the assignments in other modules.  For the course project task this week, complete the following:

•Write a descriptive composite of a typical case based on your chosen disorder. Base the fictitious case character on your research of the typical presentation of the disorder.  This case example should include your knowledge of demographics, prevalence, and associated features. For example, if your chosen disorder most typically occurs within females between the ages of 20–34, your case example should be of a female of that age range.

Add details to your case example based on other characteristics you’ve identified through your research.

•Next, with this case composite, discuss specifically how this client’s symptoms are manifested in the sport/exercise setting.  To get started, create an identity for the athlete in your case example. Draw from both your professional experience and the information you learned from your literature review to help you create the profile of your client.

You want to develop a detailed enough profile that the reader will gain an understanding of the symptoms and pathology.  After you have created your case example, discuss disorders that are similar to the disorder you have chosen to research and explain how you would differentiate between them.

You might consult the DSM Differential Diagnosis section for your chosen disorder as a guide; however, also integrate information from your literature review with the discussion.  Create your two- to three-page case presentation description in Microsoft Word document format. Name the file SP6005_M5_A3_lastname_firstinitial.doc. By the due date assigned, submit it to the Submissions Area.  All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for attributing sources.

Assignment 3 Grading Criteria   Maximum Points   Created a case example and applied professional experience, literature review data, knowledge of demographics, prevalence, and associated features to present clearly the symptoms and pathology of the disorder.  32   Outlined key points for differential diagnosis of the case.  20   Wrote in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrated ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources, displayed accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.  4   Total:  56

Preparing for the Informational Interview

Preparing for the Informational Interview

An informational interview is a recommended tool for exploring career options. You will submit a written account of the informational interview you conducted with the psychology professional.

You will ask the interviewee to describe the educational and training steps (the career paths) he or she took to reach the current position. You will also ask the interviewee to describe, in some detail, the job responsibilities associated with the position. The interview must be at least thirty minutes long. Ideally, it should be conducted in person. If that is not feasible, a phone interview is adequate.

Begin to prepare for this informational interview by identifying the professional you plan to interview. Ideally, the professional should be engaged in a career that you hope to pursue. (You may want to identify a second candidate in case your initial choice is unable to complete the interview with you.) This professional may work in your local area, but that is not necessary. If you cannot identify a professional easily, ask your friends and family if they know anyone who works in the field of psychology. You may also want to phone your local community mental health center or social services agency to ask for names and contact information of potential professionals you could interview. Contact your facilitator for guidance if you have difficulty in identifying someone.

Tasks

In a 1- to 2-page Microsoft Word document, address the following:

  • Provide the following identifying information about the individual you have selected:
    • The name
    • The job title (licensed psychologist, social worker, or case manager)
    • The level of education (a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree)
    • A description of job responsibilities or day-to-day tasks
    • The type of license, if applicable
    • The state of residence and practice
    • The e-mail address or phone number
  • Develop a list of at least fifteen questions to ask in your informational interview. Research possible questions to include using the Argosy University online library resources and the Internet. Refer to the Job Resources document to conduct an Internet search using the search terms “informational interview questions” in order to find suggested questions. Be sure to put them into your own words for the purpose of this assignment and to give credit to your source by using in-text citations and a reference list in APA format.
  • Ask the interviewee about his or her work, academic preparation, and advice. In addition, include the interviewee’s answers to questions on the following topics:
    • The experience, skills, and knowledge necessary for success in a career in psychology or in graduate school
    • Relevant professional organizations
    • His or her views on professional ethics and academic integrity
    • The role of psychological research in his or her work
    • His or her greatest challenges and rewards
    • His or her reasons for choosing the field
