Reading “Safe Haven” will never be a regret. This work of pure “fluff” fiction, written by Nicholas Sparks, keeps the reader wanting to know more about the characters and plot. This book is an interesting read. While reading “Safe Haven” the reader becomes tied up in the suspense of the book.
Throughout the book, the reader seems to not be able to stop reading. The book can be enjoyable for any girl who wants to read a wonderful romance novel. Katie is the main character in Safe Haven, or that is what the reader is lead on to believe. Katie ran away from her horribly abusive husband, Kevin, and ended up in Southport, North Carolina. Katie’s real name is Erin. When she ran away from her husband “Katie had to be sneaky; Kevin was a detective and she knew he would track her down. Sparks writes, “She had to go somewhere that he would never find her, because she knew he would not stop searching for her. Erin had to steal her elderly neighbor’s dead daughter’s identity.
That was the last thing she ever wanted to do but Erin knew she had to to escape her insane husband. Erin had long blond hair, but the new Erin, “Katie” had short brown hair and was very thin. Katie pretended to be pregnant when she escaped. Katie met the most caring, loving man in Southport, North Carolina. His name was Alex; his wife had passed away and he had two kids. He had a little girl named Kristen and a little boy named Josh. Alex loved his kids more than anything in the world.
Alex found Katie attractive and he tried to please her with everything she needed when she shopped at the store Alex owned. “She was too attractive to go unnoticed,” says Alex. Kristen and Josh seemed to like Katie too. Alex had to be wise about how he interacted with Katie. She was skittish of men and avoided eye contact. Alex was interested in her. He could not help it. He had to keep giving Katie nice gestures until she warmed up to him. Soon Alex and Katie started hanging out
